邓红雨研究组长期的研究方向是病毒复制及组装释放的分子机理、病毒与宿主天然免疫系统之间的相互作用以及新型疫苗的研发。截至目前已在Science Advances,Molecular Cell,PNAS,Journal of Virology,Nature Communications,Journal of Cell Biology等国际著名期刊发表论文70余篇。
研究表明约15-20%的人类癌症在病因学上与病毒感染有关。邓红雨研究组长期的研究重点是疱疹病毒γ亚家族的成员,包括Epstein-Barr病毒(EBV)和Kaposi's肉瘤相关疱疹病毒(KSHV),这两种病毒与肿瘤的发生发展密切相关,可引起鼻咽癌和恶性淋巴瘤等。以往的研究大都关注于病毒潜伏期表达的致瘤基因,而近期临床和基础研究结果都表明,裂解期复制对病毒致瘤亦至关重要。由于EBV和KSHV难以在体外进行高滴度培养并且缺乏理想的小动物模型,对其裂解期复制的研究受到了限制。邓红雨研究组同时采用了在分子水平上与EBV以及KSHV高度同源的鼠疱疹病毒68(MHV-68)为实验模型,研究致瘤疱疹病毒的组装释放以及病毒与宿主相互作用的机理。通过长期积累,已建立了一套较完整的体系,在分子、细胞和动物水平上深入系统地研究致瘤性疱疹病毒复制的关键步骤、调控机理及与宿主的相互作用。
